Sounds exactly like mine did when the driveshaft bolt(s) worked loose. Also sounds as if the garage were trying it on to get you to pay for an unnecessary replacement. Once you persisted they'd have had to replace it to save face.

Mine started with about 5 weeks to go on the warranty. Dealer said bring it in we can probably fix that while you wait. I did and they did, but they then wanted to charge me about £80 for doing it. When I reminded them that it was still under Volvo's 3YR warranty they tried to say that that wasn't covered. After further 'discussion', they relented, said OK we'll sort it, gave me my keys and I left, but with a very nasty taste in my mouth!!

I have tightened both driveshaft bolts ,but it has made no difference.
I have had the car looked at by an auto transmission specialist and they say it is now the nearside CV making the ''Clunk''.
I have spoken to the dealer and they refuse to repair the car anymore and will only give me a refund.
I now have to decide whether to take a refund or repair the car by myself,at a cost of £5/600.00
Problem is I got the car at a very good price and I have taxed it, and fitted a tow bar.
Decisions ,decisions!!

Hello, The car was 6500. How much was the tax? And how much did the towing rig cost? Too bad you rushed into the sale. I'd just get my money back-period. Chalk the loss up to experience. Since you got your caravan holiday out of the deal subtract the cost of renting a tow car from your losses. Believe me, when you see this car back on the lot it'll have had it's tow rig removed since a tow rig suggests a beaten transmission. A clunking car will bother you for as long as you own it. Changing a CV joint entails swapping out the axle (quickest-easiest-cheapest way). You said the first CV/axle swap was 350 and that replacing the other one yourself might cost "5/600.00". Where the devil are these numbers coming from? They're feeling you out, mate. Don't be foolish. Dump that car. Funny how nobody has referred to the slimy, dishonest way they've treated you. They probably thickened the transmission fluid so you'd drive off quietly. You should tell us (we're your friends, aren't we?) their name. Kira

Hi Kira. The tax he's referring to is the RFL (road fund licence). On an S60 Diesel, your talking around £200 for the year.

The RFL varies greatly over here, £35 p/a for a small eco friendly car, to anything upto £435 p/a for the likes of an Audi R8. I pay £245 a year to drive my car on roads that are more suited to a moto cross bike.
