No problem, I hope it gets sorted at a reasonable price. I'm all for using specialists for specialist tasks, but a clutch and/or flywheel problem should be bread and butter stuff for any halfway competent mechanic.

I'd be inclined to take a D5 clutch to a Volvo specialist. Others wished they did in other threads.

Is it just me or is this massively expensive??I really dont want to go down the route of Mr Clutch but 840 quid seems ridiculous. This was 6-7 hrs for labour which was 350 quid. The problem is it sounds like I need a volvo specialist to properly diagnose what the exact problem is.

Before i bought my S60 D5 6 speed manual, out of interest, i checked the price of a replacement clutch from Mr Clutch.

They would only change the entire unit, ie Clutch and DMF and it was £1249.

I've been doing more searching on here, maybe the quote was about right then? The garage did say they they might be able to knock around £80 off the quoted clutch price (I think they said it was around 200-250 quid but they'd probably be able to get an equivalent non-genuine volvo which was just as good and cheaper; cant remember the make he said) and they quoted 169 I believe for the slave cylinder; does this sound about right?

Slave's less than 60 quid from Volvo, if memory serves.
Call them.
