Yuk!

A hit taken on the glass is always easier than one on the bonnet.

We went to Whitby once. The seagulls there are like no others in that almost every car in the town was covered in the stuff.

We spoke once to a local car dealership guy who said he always checks the paintwork closely on any car owned and parked in or around Whitby.

Nairn is also a danger zone for seagulls.

PS. Any solutions for Swallows that set up a nest every year in the apex of my roofline and neighbours houses? Apart from the mud (some of the mud hits the wall and sticks, some misses and falls onto the window sills - like life really then!) the little blighters poo all over the cars on the drive. Every morning, before my bike ride, I have to use the Poorboys Bird Sh#t Remover (that's actually what it's called on the bottle) to clean off the calling cards from the birds. Over the course of the Summer the deposits on the window sills grow like the floor of a cave in the tropics, not nice.

PPS. Just a tad off topic but thought I would ask. The source of all knowledge exists on this forum, concentrated on this particular thread

Or alternatively put flies into a biologically toxic environment as see what happens to them.

What affects flies is not a cororally for the effects on human kind.
I don't know without trying it and I'm not volunteering.

The situation is more serious than you think, because those swallows are confused and behaving like house martins.

Thanks Roy, that looks interesting. I will show Mrs A and see what she thinks. Much appreciated as I have not seen anything like this before.

Default Okay, comfort break over & back to the EGR light etc.

So, if my memory serves me correctly, Volvo have sometimes marketed their cars on the basis of dependability. For example, I am sure that there was an advertising campaign for the Ocean Race edition that featured a car being driven through atrocious conditions but ultimately being reliable such that folks' lives depended upon it?

Well today our XC60 only just met the minimum standard. We set off and, before long the turtle was back alongside the amber warning light. On the way home tonight our RPM was again restricted and power was meagre anywhere in the range. We just made it past an old Ford Transit on the drag of the A68 having exited the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass. One of those overtaking manoeuvres where you look left out of your passenger window and the guy in the transit does likewise as he looks right - we inched past, HGV drivers would be proud of us both.

The TFT display has also decided to start playing up. A couple of days ago it just decided to go ultra bright, which I thought was a bit odd. Tried adjusting it down but the little rheostat wheel has no effect during the day. It only adjusts it when it automatically has adjusted to night mode. So it's fixed at maximum brightness during the day.

Overall, on a week during which We really needed our car, I should have had an ultra-reliable Volvo, the car's been pretty rubbish TBH.

Almost 2.5yrs into my ownership and Volvo have just discovered a proper fix. But if the latest issue for us doesn't throw an EGR error then we won't get the fix...... unless I contact VCS UK, which I will but shouldn't have to.

And folk wonder why I am switching brands? I know it'll just be something else but, as Einstein said...... the definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over again while hoping for a different result.

I mentioned on an earlier post that I was looking to get the permanent fix done on my car during its next service as the the EGR has failed twice already for me. The dealer, fairly, advised that they could not authorise this so I wrote to Volvo UK. They have just agreed to authorise it so it will be done when the car is next serviced, already booked for end of June. This is without a warning light being on. They will only do this if your car has a history of EGR related issues, mine does.

Trouble is the F-Pace is another new design like the XC60 D4. Might be wiser to wait until it has been on the market a year if you can and then take the plunge. True the engine and gearbox have been in use for while so at least they should be OK, but cars are composed of so many parts, and at that price I'd want to be pretty sure.

Still someone has to be a car test pilot for the more cautious of us.
