Default 850 T5 downpipe/catalyser section that has been decatted

Hi chaps

I have an 850 T5R downpipe/cat that has had the innards removed i.e. looks like a standard cat from the outside - in good condition. Saves the hassle of getting a bit of pipe welded in instead, plus it retains the original look.

Not wishing to be over pedantic but I was under the impression that it is illegal to run a vehicle intended to have a catalytic converter without one. Would fail emission test and also an MOT failure. Or am I wrong?

Hi,

Please could you just fill me in on what gains are achieved by going down this route?....bhp, mpg. I ask because on my previous motor, Fiat 20VT, you could buy a decat pipe. Alot of owners put them on however, because you have to take them off and put them back on once a year for the MOT, I didn't know if the pros out weighed the cons.

Thanks

Oliver
