Default New member initial queries.....

Hi all, Just joined about 5 minutes ago.

My car:
S40 T4
Black
Only one upgrade (listed below)
16" volvo alloys
Black mesh grille with chrome surround

Got a couple of queries for you...

1. I habe a BSR stainless exhaust, but was wondering what other performance upgrades would be suitable on an "as low as possible" budget.

2. The car has the old grey bumper splitter at the bottom, front and rear. Where can I get hold of the new, body clolured ones, (in black)???

Many thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob, welcome to the forums!

1. The exhaust will help free up the breathing a bit, so logically a race cat and possibly 3" downpipe would be advisable to get the best out of your exhaust, but neither really classify as "low as possible" in terms of budget.

2. If I'm understanding you correctly, you currently have the phase 1 body trim and want to get the phase 2 stuff fitted? Can't be done I'm afraid afaik. I looked into this last year, but the bumpers themselves are a different shape.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Cheers for that.

Never mind on the bumpers, might have to go after market for those.

Yeah you could get some sort of aftermarket front spoiler to replace all that black trim. Mine looks even worse than default in fact, I had to change the middle bit of mine so that looks black but the worn outer bits look grey so the whole thing just looks stupid! I'll have to get some of that "back to black" stuff.

I've got an ITG panel filter direct replacement for the volvo air filter and I removed all the foam from the airbox as well so it makes some noise when it breathes. And I removed the cover on the front of the airbox as well.

Hi Drew. Yes, MBCs do apparently work well, but I've never had one myself. However, v6en on this forum I believe used to have one until she got her full remap. Have to restrain yourself from cranking up the boost too much though...bad things can ensue otherwise...

I did exactly the same thing, with the same filter, and even drilled holes in the airbox, but didn't notice any discernible difference. I now run a KN57i which, before you all start, runs no hotter or colder than the standard airbox. However, after some sort of heat-soak conditions (say, stop-start traffic), the KN cools down to normal operating temperature A LOT quicker than the airbox did.

As Paul has mentioned, MBCs can work and give you moderate gains, but it really is something which is probably best set up on a rolling road where the air-fuel ratio can be monitored so that it will run safely. Volvo engines are robust, which is why it may be possible to get away with 'poor' tuning, but lean running is an issue which will almost certainly cause long term, if not permanent damage.

Default T5 at last.

Yay!
Bought a '95 850 GLE T5 Auto. Silver 7 seater with full black leather interior.

Got to ask a question about the turbo gauge, mine doesnt move, even when ignition is off, it just moves a little from middle to the right a smidge.

Am I supposed to get a whoosh of power? I just get continuous acceleration, no kick up the pants when turbo kicks in.
I am starting to think it's an LPT.
Please don't let me have bought a pup.
