Which colur wheels?
My S40 is in need of 4 new tyres and I've decided to go for a full powdercoat wheel refurb while I'm at it and would like to update the car a bit with a change of wheel colour.
Problem is, the car is Orinoco Blue, or grandad colour as the wife calls it and I think it's a hard colour to compliment. I was all set to go for an anthracite, as that seems to be the trend nowadays, until I found the image below online, which I think looks hideous! There is a gunmetal or gunmetal chrome option, both of which are lighter than anthracite, links here... https://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk...grid/gunmetal/ https://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk...nmetal-chrome/ I considered gold, which I think would work with the car colour, but is quite dated now. Also I'm thinking Rays Racing Bronze, may work well... Or, should I just stick with silver? What do you think? Last edited by parallaxerr; Jun 14th, 2018 at 15:39. |

Got to be silver.
I was thinking of a slight change but ended up sticking with the metallic fleck silver. Trouble is the other finishes can look cool to some but darker colours also make the wheels look smaller, if its not an original colour (or close to) then it can also look like a chav mobile. However, I had my C70's last set refurb'd by the wheel specialist and have been very impressed with the finish and durability of the finish also despite doing my mega weekly miles and covering them with ferodo DS2500 brake dust and the worst of what british weather can throw at them.

I've used the wheel specialist before too and I agree the finish is very durable, I previously had the high power silver with big metallic flake in it. The S40 wheels don't currently have a flake but they are incredibly glossy, which I like, similar to the gunmetal chrome finish linked to above. Also, the centre caps on the wheels are gunmetal grey, so if I went for a grey, it would hopefully look fairly OEM. I'm going to stop by the local branch on my way home today to have a look at their sample finishes in the showroom, perhaps take a few wheels out to hold up against the car. |

If you're under the age of 30, black. Over the age of 30, silver.

I love black wheels, but I think standard silver would probably work best on that S40.
Though the black might contrast nicely to the sky blue colour of the car. Maybe satin black with a more matte look might suit?

Looks like silver is winning the day!
I stopped by the wheel specialist on the way home and the guys lined up a few different colour rims next to the car. Gunmetal - Very, VERY nice indeed. A much lighter grey than the web photo above and completely different to the gunmetal link on the TWS site. It has a very deep gloss shine. Perfectly matches my OEM centre caps. Didn't think I'd like it, but I loved it. Bronze - They only had a matte finished wheel available and whilst I think with a gloss finish it would look better, I'm not as convinced as I thought I'd be. So far then, completely the opposite to how I felt before seeing the colours for real. Finally, the silvers....Lots to choose from but I just kept coming back to the same one. Sport 2 I think they call it, ULTRA bright with a TINY flake in it and a very high gloss finish. This would be the safe option and be slightly brighter than the wheels currently are. |

On the blue I like standard silver. Not much a fan of the darker colours unless the car is white.

I would stick with the silver, sometimes they just pop a bit more.
