It is not mentioned. On previous car it was something like 0.75L

It should be possible to figure out the difference between a warm and cold engine oil level by simply doing the check twice and using the difference to correct future readings.
It may be to do with density. The system uses ultrasonics passed through the oil.

Hence the reason I fitted the Police dipstick for a hot check. The physical dipstick does match up with the electronic one when the engine is cold.

Volvo service refused me to change oil if i bring my own oil and filter, so i decided to change it myself. Surprisingly it went well.

So i did following:
1) I drove a car for ~12 km on a highway to get oil hot so there will be less left in the engine.
2) Drained oil (it is hot! so be careful). It was pretty quick and poured like water.
3) Changed oil filter
4) Put 4.9L of oil

And it is almost full according to cars indicator.

Unexpected readings after my oil change?

6k miles ago the electronic dipstick indicated the level on 3/4 (3 out of four segments between min and max)

I changed the oil last week and the level had risen to 4/4 or on the max line. I am aware of the oil rise issues on this engine due to DPF injecting fuel.

I drained out and carefully measured 6 litres of oil including what came out of the filter.
I replaced with 5.4 litres of oil, assuming that at 600ml less that what was in, it would read approx 1/4 (1 out of the four segments between min and max) and then I would top up over the next few days.

To my surprise it is still reading on the max line (4/4)?

So either my oil sensor or my understanding of how this works is faulty?

All tests done on the flat after leaving to settle, and covering a few days between tests.

I think I will suck out half a litre and see if the reading does go down this time?
