Question Wheel wax - whats your experience ?

Ive been using autoglyms wheel wax for many years, its a spray on product a bit of a fiddle to apply (i tend to spray and wipe it over the wheel), but it works fairly well, they now sell the same (name anyway) product but guess what its in a smaller 300ml can instead of the old 450ml can (see pics). Recently used the small can product (which is no surprise more expensive than the old/larger can.. thanks for that autoglym..) but it seems to be a very different formula and this version is spray only and leave to dry for a few hours.. no idea on how effective this is of yet, but im wondering what other products out there that work better and are easier to apply, has anyone used collinite 845? it seems to get good reviews.. link below

Frankly.. I've done it only once, so I can't compare in any way is my way better or worse.

A) wheels off (I've been doing some work on brakes anyway)
B)clean, scrub, do whatever until they're clean.
C) turtle wax (actually I don't think they make it anymore) resin polish
D) turtle wax hard shell wax (green jar)
E) resin polish
F)tesco cheapest car polish
G) once again, resin.

Result? Shiny. Just shiny, nothing special. But brake dust seems to come off by itself almost.. There's usually only a very very thin layer of dust, almost like top coat was "tinted" without impairing shininess.

But as I said- maybe there are better ways, I simply used what I had at hand.

I couldn't get away with the AG spray sealant at all so looked into other options of wheel protection.

There are a few to choose from and this link here to CYC has a few of them - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wheels...s/cat_132.html

You can of course also apply a few coats of hard wax - http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/cat_4.html

I was going to get either PB Wheel Sealant, FK1000 or Gtechniq C5 when I eventually get my alloys refurbed.

Collinite is bloody marvelous on the bodywork, can't say I've used it on my wheels as they're satin finish.

Ez car care do a spray sealant which is working great for me - just pressure wash all the gunk off. Easy.

I put Collinite 845 on my wheels when they were refurbished last year.

I also generally use the AutoGlym spray you have pictured as a topper and it seems to work well.

Every 4 weeks or so, I just apply a normal apply a sealant like Gtechniq (even if it happens to be my C2V3) and never had issues. The wheels are also a doddle to clean every week despite doing approximately 800 miles a week with Ferodo DS2500 brake pads!

Hi dsk,

What is the consistency of the collinite like to apply ?, do you have to apply, wait and then buff it, or can you just put it on in one go?

With bodywork I use a damp applicator sponge (I use the autoglym blue applicator sponge) and apply with a mixture of circular and straight motions until I get a haze similar to this:

In direct sunlight, buff off within a few minutes. In the shade or cloudy weather it doesn't seem to make a huge difference either way. I dare say I'd apply it to all of the wheels before buffing them.

It can be awkward to use at first - it's more of a paste than a liquid so it comes out in bits, not blobs. Stretches very far though.
