V60 Hybrid owners: Bargain charging cables
Hi All,
When I bought my V60 PHEV, it came with the standard, slow 3-pin charging cable but I thought I'd wait a bit before buying the "Type 2" faster charge cable for public charger units. After all, the brochure said it was only £50. When I rang the local dealer they said, "Oh no. That's only if you buy it at the time you order the car. It's (about) £350 to buy now." 350!? That's a heck of a lot of diesel! If it's of any help to anyone, after a lot of searching I managed to find http://evonestop.co.uk/product-categ...arging-cables/ who are selling some 3m cables for considerably less. I rang them to check and they said apparently 3m cables aren't that popular so are being discontinued, but it works fine for me. |

Hi,
Thanks for the link. I've got a V60 Hybrid on order so I'm also looking at cables and charging options. When I ordered it, to change from the standard cable for length or type was only a +/- 50 euro option but to have a second additional cable was 400 euro, so I didn't go for the 2nd one. Did you go for the 16A or 32A version of the type 2 cable? Is it reliable without the in-line controller/protection device? The Volvo site mentions 20A max rating for their type 2 version but it's not clear if there's a controller on it. The manual mentions that if it's a public charger, they have protection integrated on the station, so no in-line controller needed. The car is supposed to be limited to 16A and I assume won't take a heavier current than it can handle, but I've no experience and the dealer will no doubt point me in the direction of their branded cable. Thanks for any guidance! |

the 3m cable might be being discontinued due to its length. 3m is ok for some charging points but at home I need at least a 5m. It is always better to have spare than not reach at all. I have a charging point at home which can be set to 32A but as noted the V60 only draws a max of 16A whatever it is supplied.

@Charlie:
I just went for the 16amp version. I suppose if we were to buy a different hybrid / electric vehicle in the future then maybe a 32amp might be more useful, but by that time, it'll probably have moved on to something even faster. Also I think I might have read the cables have some sort of inbuilt signalling to indicate the maximum current each can carry. |

Thanks for the replies.
The cable would also a spare for me to use at places where the charging post is immediately next to the parking bay so I'm temped to get a 3m one. Being a hybrid, I'm not too worried if I can't get a top-up charge. I might go for the 32A version just to future-proof it for the sake of the extra 10 GBP. |

Does the V60 only have an AC charger input? Rapid chargers can charge almost any car in half an hour but are DC and use Chademo or CCS (frankenplug) connectors.

@Craigy: AC only, (single phase only I assume) 16amps max.
Still, this is a big step up from the standard 3-pin charger which only allows you to switch between 6, 8 or 10 amp options. Though fine for overnight charging, it's a bit slow for the public chargers. Last edited by DieselElectric; Jun 22nd, 2015 at 11:13. |

V60 hybrid charcing cable problem
Hi Everybody,
I hope you can help me. There was an error code at charging in volvo' computer: no lock the cable. The mechanic delete the error code and the next day I plugged the cable, the latch is closed and I can not pull it out. The latch does not open :-( What should we do? Was someone else same problem? Thanks |
