I self installed mine on my V60 then took it to a local Volvo independent specialist in Cannock to get it coded - they charged me £30 for the procedure.

Might be worth trying the local Volvo indies that have access to the relevant software

Quick update on this for anyone searching. Spoke to numerous independents and local dealers and nobody would give a realistic price for this job which is a shame. One claimed its 0.9 hours work to do the download which cannot be right so don't know if there is a problem Volvo's end.

In the end I ordered a dedicated kit from PF Jones that doesn't involve cutting any wires. Yes the car won't know a trailer is attached so no PDC cut off or trailer stability assist but as I mostly use it for bike racks and launching boats that's fine by me.

I did mine along with a SW upgrade to RTTI. 78euro all-in. The actual 'work' took about 10mins, i.e. A few minutes typing into the computer, Plug in the OBD plug, attach jump leads and then let it sit there to download for 30-40 mins.
I was able to see the car from the waiting room the whole time. The guy was changing the oil in another car in the meantime.

This has worked for me a couple of times when I have needed VIDA stuff doing (2015 car so have no choice but to use official channels) - drop into a dealer if you are 'passing' around 3-4pm, speak to the workshop/service manager and ask them how much it would cost and when would be the best time to do it, while hinting that you aren't in any hurry to do it, just enquiring.
Invariably, I have been told "if you can hang around for a bit we can do It more or less now". This is because by this time of day some of the Technicians have a bit of time on their hands and one of the bays (cables) is usually available too, because they will be waiting for parts to arrive next morning / don't want to start a new car.
They also make some extra money (that you hinted you weren't too bothered to spend) as they can just plug your car in and go back to what they were doing on another 'booked-in' car.

I have fitted a towbar to my 2014 D5 R Design yesterday with a PF Jones dedicated wiring kit.

Easy to install and no downloads necessary. Plug n Play.

I had phoned the local Volvo dealer who advised £79.99 + VAT for the software download, however they said this was only necessary for a Volvo genuine wiring kit.

The pfjones dedicated wiring kit (13pin) costs about £60 more than you could get a genuine wiring kit and module for.
So, for the sake of £36 and a visit to a dealer, you are going without automatic shut-off of reversing sensors and foglights, trailer stability control to cut down risk of snaking, dashboard warning of wiring/bulb faults, etc.
Many of the above members who went for the 'genuine wiring and module' have all these features and actually saved money over buying the 'dedicated wiring kit'

Ebay tow bar and genuine Volvo electronics kit. All easily fitted myself and a trip to the Indy for the software (£25) when the service was due.
All in about £220. Against £800 from the dealer.

My post was merely to point out that a dealer download isn't necessary for all kits.
And for your info..I only bought the car last Friday and needed towbar and electrics fitted and working before today as I'm off on holiday tonight, hence OEM Volvo was not an option as the dealer was booked till next week.

My 1st post !! Thanks for the warm welcome..
