Exclamation Need help please!

Hi fokes,

I have a v50 59 1.6, warning lights come in saying : anti brake service required, brake failure stop, power steering service required all the same time!!! All gages go to 0 and car runs very sluggish. But you turn the car off and 5 mins later the car runs fine and no codes appear. Local garage Can’t work it out and I am hoping someone can give an insight be for taking it to Volvo!

Please could some one suggest what could be wrong? I have had all new brake pads, service 4K ago!

Richard

Hi Richard,

I had similar messages on my V50, it turned out to be the CEM. This is located under the glove box, in the passenger foot well.
Sometimes the connections can become loose due to being accidently knocked by the passengers feet. There are numerous links on this forum on how to address this.

I hope this helps.

I had the same problem a few times, it is CEM connections related.

checked all the CEM and all seams fine, also got the electrician to check the wiring behind the dash board as that seams to be another fault with Fords and as there are similarities with them both, unfortunately it was not the problem!

any other ideas any one may have before i take it to Volvo??

What condition your battery is? Can you confirm that alternator is working perfectly and charging voltage when driving is over 14V ? Just to exclude the possibility of electronic gremlins with undervolting (happens on our cars). Otherwise its basically guessing, can be something as simple as worn connector for ABS sensor or DSTC or something serious with BCM (brake control module).
Without VIDA you wont know for sure.
Maybe there is forum member near you with Vida+Dice that could help diagnose?

Default Same Symptoms Daughter's sold on V50.

V50, D5, my 2007.
Owned by daughter until sold on to a neighbour when daughter bought XC70.
All the same symptoms, engine just died, brake failure warning, wipers on and key locked in ignition. It did this last December. Local indi. Volvo specialist diagnosed blocked fuel filter which was replaced and car running again.
Car has just today done it again. Recovered to same specialist who is now suggesting alternator problem. I've messaged the current owner with a summary of the forum suggestions. Will await outcome.
