The oil quantity varies on the models of XC60. Some engines require 5.2 litres (D3 & D4's without all-wheel drive), some (D4 & D5 all-wheel drive versions) require approx 5.9 litres of oil. I don't know whether yours is all wheel drive or not. If it isn't, then 5.2 litres is fine. If it has all-wheel drive & you have a D4 or D5 engine, then the oil is approx 0.7 litres low (AWD versions take 5.9 litres).

However, 3/4 on the "in car dipstick" is no harm because it allows movement for the oil level to rise should failed DPF regenerations occur. Putting too much oil in these engines can trigger dash warnings. Leaving it as is will be fine.

This is not quite right!
All VEA diesel engines require 5.2l of oil.
All VEA petrol engines require 5.6l of oil.
There are some engines, which require 5.9l, but they are the old 5 cylinders ones.

According to these extracts from Volvo XC60 manuals, that isn't correct either. The required oil quantity depends on the year of the vehicle.

2017 vehicles:

2018 vehicles:

As the original posters vehicle is two years old, then it'll take 5.2 litres of oil as you say.

Are the ones listed on the 2017 document (first link) not VEA engines then, hence the varying oil quantities required shown on that table?

Well if you look carefully the engines, which need 5.9l, require oil grade:
ACEA A5/B5
Viscosity: SAE 0W–30

This oil grade has been used only in the 5 cylinder engines.

All VEA engines require oil grade:
VCC RBS0-2AE 0W-20

P. S. The owner manual, which link you posted is for 2017 non SPA XC60!

Hence why I asked the question in my previous post...
