Noisy Night
Last night my alarm kept going off. I kept unlocking and locking the doors to make it stop. However it just went off again a few minutes later. So in the interest of my neighbours and sleep before work i decided to leave it unlocked only for it to sound again. To my surprise the car had locked itself and rearmed the alarm (the red light was flashing) I've been meaning to get a new battery for a while, does anyone think that will help the situation? Been getting the battery low message for months now and the stop/start hasn't been working. It is the original battery on a 2013 S60

If you unlock the car but do not open a door, it will relock and reactivate the alarm. It may well have been a spider in the car. If it happens again, try putting the car alarm into Reduced Guard mode (see your manual under Alarm - reduced alarm level) to deactivate the internal motion sensors.

When my son's 2011 XC70 had a worn-out battery last month it was fine until suddenly it wasn't. Then it refused to start and told him that the vehicle was in valet mode. Then the alarm started to go off when he unlocked the car etc.
This was when they were about to set off home from a holiday in deepest, west-est Cornwall. It was late afternoon, the car was fully loaded with luggage and family, and they needed to get home. Not the ideal time for a battery to fail but, then again, batteries never fail except for precisely when you don't want them to fail. In essence, the car really needed to tell him that the battery was low but appeared unable to do so. Instead, it was like a crying baby, and it fell upon the breakdown service to work out what the crying meant in this particular case. Clearly you need to change the battery in your car before it refuses to start at an awkward moment, so it makes sense to do this and then see what happens with the alarm. You'll get your answer simply by doing the right thing. Last edited by Sotosound; Sep 22nd, 2020 at 14:42. |

It's worth bearing in mind this generation of Volvos have issues with the bonnet latch sensor - when it's locked if for some reason the car decides the bonnet is open it sets off the alarm. There's lots of threads on this issue - spraying WD40 or other lube in the catch might help.
