Default Lazy rear seatbelts

Mid row seatbelts on my XC90 are very lazy, if passengers dont feed them back they do not retract very well and the buckle rattles against the plastic trim, which becomes very annoying,
Is anyone else experiencing this, mine have been like this from new.

Yes, ours are exactly the same, there seems to be a very weak recoil on them. The kids just unbuckle and let them go, and then more often or not they are left with the buckle rattling as you say.

Before now I've had to rely on pilot assist while climbing into the back quickly to stop the rattle.

My advice if you are serious is please don’t. Pilot Assist could cancel for any number of reasons.

You are not serious..are you?

My middle row seatbelts have been like that from new too. After my constant moaning, kids got into a habit of neatly tucking them away, the way they should be.

No, I jest. in fact, I have huge concerns that many people don't understand the limit of automation and that its an assistive technology, and not a replacement for the human behind the wheel. These technologies are only as good as the people who use them

The rear seat belt buckles actually have a tab of webbing stitched to its side specifically to stop it rattling against the pillar trim. They do need checking that they have been stowed properly though, or they will rattle if turned or jammed the wrong way round.

I’ve not noticed the seatbelts to be lazy to retract, but I almost never sit in the back. Ford Ranger and Land Cruiser front seatbelts on the other hand, drive me up the wall with their lazy demeanour. I had to have the front driver’s seatbelt changed under warranty on the LC it was so bad, but since it was ten years old it’s been just as bad. It will be twenty in a few months.
