Default V70 Starring Issues

Hi all. My 1997 V70 2.5 TDi is having starting problems when taking her on long journeys. What is happening is the car will start no problem. However when I am heading home, she simply will not fire. The last time we only took her on a 2 hour journey and back, and the problem came when I set off. What happened on this occasion was that every few minutes I would try and nothing. Then about twenty minutes later I tried her again and got her going. I've spoken to my helpful mechanic who takes pride in helping me look after her, and he cannot find what it is. Has anybody else had the same problem, or would they be able to give me some advice on what to do. Your help would be gratefully appreciated.

Sounds like the timing is out a few degrees or possibly air getting into the fuel supply. When were the camshaft and fuel pump belts last changed and was the dynamic timing set up correctly?
