  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

- back in the early 90's, when I had my first 480 (88 model) the cambelt change interval was 48,000 miles or 4 years...that was a bit of a shock at the first service after I bought the car used from a Volvo dealer with FVSH!

Don't get me wrong: I agree with you that the cam-belt shouldn't need doing after only 6 years, I'm just trying to explain how the dealers have wangled it by the way the service intervals have been set out.

Thanks Clan - I didn't know this was how it was supposed to work but I know you are "well in the know" about these things!

I guess the trouble is that, even if this is supposed to be the approach, many items are still going to be given set lifespans related to service intervals on the basis that a service is the only time the dealer expects to see the car.

So as long as service intervals are set as being at "certain time or mileage, whichever comes first", Volvo maintain complete control over when to do things like changing a cambelt: if you want to maintain the FVSH you really have little choice but to go along with it...
