Default XC70 loud Knock from front end

03 XC70 Diesel Auto

When reversing off my drive, I go back half a car length, full left lock and part way through manoeuvre there is a loud knock/thunk. Sounds like a spring relocating after popping out.

If I drive round a bend/roundabout in a ‘spirited’ manner I get a slightly less noisy/gentler but similar thunk/knock.

It does it after car has started moving/has been moving for a while- not when drivetrain first starts moving.

Garage has had a look at every Bush/joint/bearing/suspension part. Had it on shaker plates and two poster ramp. Pry bar and inspected everything.
I trust their abilities/competence 100%.

The only thing they found was OSF inner cv boot was torn. They inspected joint and said it needed repacking but joint looked ok. We had problems finding a new shaft anyway so they said to try it incase it was now fixed.

It’s not!!!

The only thing they could find was movement in the rack. The noise sounds too substantial to be inner track rod joints.

Is there a common/usual fault that has popped up before? Have read about rack welds breaking but not sure if this affects XC70s.

Ideas?

Many thanks
