Default XC60 D5 (2014) R-DESIGN LUX NAV AWD 2.4 5dr

Yesterday I collected the above, having part exchanged it for a XC90 2.4 AWD SE (2008 on 130k miles).

With only 54k miles, it is in fantastic condition and has a few extra toys such as rear parking sensors, bi-xenon lights and a power tail gate.

Having collected the car, I drove ½mile down the road to fill up with diesel, then park in an Asda carpark (with a Costa coffee) to play, sorry adjust, many of the settings. At first this seems a little daunting, but it soon becomes quite intuiative.

Although I had my Tomtom with me, I entered my post code into the satnav - that was easier than I thought it would be (having read the online manuals for the past few days). Suffice to say it direct me home with no worries.

I do miss the current speed limit indication in the navigation display, but once I'd worked out what the noise was, at least the speed camera locations indicate their speed.

Went for a drive in the dark last night - was'nt overly impressed with the "bendy lights", but did appreciate the side looking lights.

Went for a drive up to the Long Myndd today (an hour each way) - lovely to drive once you get used to the steering .

Had a bit of a problem when I got close to home; a squeeling noise from the front - looks like the brake pad mount is rubbing on the disk (which are slightly worn) - I'll see if I can get them replaced at the garage opposite work tomorrow.

Managed to download a satnave update and then start to install it into the car - that might take a while, but I hope it will give me access to the Car ID system so I can send map destinationd to the car from my PC/Phone.

I really do like this car, and boy, has it got some umph

Cracking pics will you be using it to tow the frontera?

PS tyres make a big difference to the grip... has it been polestar optimised?

Satnav update typically take 1.5/2hours to install so don’t rely on needing nav until it’s finished it also loads in stages so if you do lots of 20min trips and it’s a 25 min stage then it will keep restarting that stage.....

Thanks all.

No, no Polestar. Did look for that option when searching but didn't find one. Not particularly bothered though as 215bhp is good enough for now.

One day, I hope to get the Frontera back on the road (been in the lockup for 4 years following a failed MOT - needs welding).

Had researched the sat nav update beforehand - it might take a day or two to complete with my 20 minute commutes.

Expect more photos - it's a hobby, and this car is much more photogenic than than my previous silver XC90.

Had the brake pads and rotas replaced today (small one-man garage accross the road from work). Total cost: £225

Ferodo pads and (can't recall, but recognise brand name) rotas.

I have the bendy lights, and at first wasn't impressed, changing the bulbs for new ones(mine were original from 2012) made a massive difference so may be worth considering.
One of mine had begun to flicker and go a bit purple, I went with the osram xenarc lasers and v happy with results, bit of a sting at 150 a pair but if they last 6 years not too bad.

I rather like the directional headlights around our lanes down here. But probably a gimmick too far for the tiny advantage they give and another mechanism to go wrong!

Default Sensus Connect Navigation Update

I had tried to update the Sensus Connect Navigation system by using an IBM 1TB Passport (self powered USB drive) but although the system appeared to initiate the update, it then hung.

Received a 32GB USB stick ofo of Amazon, formatted it FAT32 and copied over the files from my PC's HDD and tried again... much better:

After a trip out and back, I had a look through some other settings and this appeared:

So, removed the USB stick and reinserted it - it continued to work:

Looking at the rate of progress, it might be completed when I retun from work tomorrow (40 minute round trip).

Default XC60 D5 (215) Fuel Consumption

One of the things that attracted be to this car was it's fuel consumption.

My old XC90 was averaging around 26mpg - I was expecting 30-35mpg with the XC60 despite the same engine.

Pleasantly surprised (considering mostly rush hour commuting):
