Tortoise on my dashboard - what the hec is going on?
Ok, let's call a spade a spade.....
I have an R-design XC60 with the new D4 VEA engine. Tonight I also have a tortoise image on my central driver's dash with the message 'reduced engine performance'. Yellow engine block light is also illuminated with the word 'check'. Why? And, while you're about it......is there an alternative message 'enhanced engine performance' with a picture of a leopard? I'm thinking we might need to give the car a good blast up the A68 tomorrow since it's been cold recently and she's only been dithering around town with Mrs A. Or Mrs A will need to pay a visit to those 'nice people' at Clelands Volvo in Galashiels. Any thoughts (is it the return of the dreaded EGR, although that came with a different message 6,000 miles ago). Arianne

That looks like it's just a generic message, and could be a number of things.
You need to take it in and I guess there will be a code logged they can read that will tell what the problem is

What does it say in the manual?
Generally a yellow static light is a warning to get it looked asap whereas a flashing light means Stop Immediately but either way I would consult the manual and then the dealer! Hopefully it's nothing serious.....

Might pay you to ring volvo b4 you go on your blast up the A road though,and just as a thought have you checked fluid levels ? Oil etc?
I see you had an XC90 before and just slightly off topic how do you like your Xc60 in comparison, better or regret changing it?

Off topic - ....compared to my XC90?

As for reliability.....sadly neither the XC90 nor this XC60 acquit themselves very well. The track record of the XC90 was not good but we still loved her (some women are like that - expensive but great to have as company!). Her little sister, our XC60, has similar traits we think This one will be moved on between 3-4yrs old. All that technology doesn't bode well. We held on to the XC90 for 8yrs, thinking that lots of love and dealer attention would mean trouble free motoring because it was a Volvo. But it was not to be and the final straw was a rumbling rear wheel bearing all the way back from Italy in Summer 2013 - goodbye XC90. Got £9.3k for her on eBay though - 8yrs old, 4mths MOT and 115k on the clock. Pretty good when the dealer offered £4.5k! Ah well, such is life. Carting tomorrow night which will be a different experience (not with the Volvo!). Arianne

@Arianne
Does the car drive as normal? Check all hoses are secure. Could simply be a loose hose. I had an issue where the car went into limp mode from time to time and some hose (don't ask me what!) had come loose/wasn't sealed right. Have you lifted the bonnet and had a ganders? Regards EDIT: had a ganders in here and 'throttle body' and 'throttle module' crops up Last edited by volvorocks; Jan 23rd, 2015 at 00:11. |
