Testing a D5 AWD Inscription this week
I've been looking forward to this for a while after attending the launch event earlier in the year.
Here's the spec for those who are interested: Winter Pack Heated Front Seats Heated Washer Nozzles Head-Up Display in Windscreen £575 Intellisafe Pro Pack Adaptive Cruise Control with Distance Alert Queue Assist Lane Keeping Aid Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) Rear Collision Mitigation £1,500 Xenium Pack Power Glass Tilt and Slide Panoramic Sunroof with Sun Curtain (standard T8 Twin Engine) Parking Camera 360º Surround View Park Assist Pilot - Automatic Parallel and 90° Parking (includes Front and Rear Park Assist) £2,000 Single Options Price Metallic Paint £700 Drive Mode Settings inc. Adjustable Steering Force £395 Four Corner Electronic Air Suspension £2,150 Laminated Side Windows £450 Tempa Spare Wheel and Jack £150 Apple CarPlay™ (available November’15) with 230v/150W 3 Pin Plug Socket £300 Dark Tinted Windows - Rear Doors and Cargo Area £400 Sensus Connect with Premium Sound by Bowers and Wilkins £3,000 Haven't driven it much so far but we are heading of to Aviemore tomorrow so am expecting pretty horrible weather + maybe a bit of snow. No winter tyres fitted so that could be interesting. So far I'm loving the air suspension and B&W stereo system (although it could do with a CD player) but am not a fan of the way it pulls away at a junction - either very slow or silly full boost thrust. Will try and get some nice photos of it in the wilderness.....

I'm not sure what more I would expect for £60k. Sounds like a pretty nice car for the cash. Still prefer the Momentum look though with bigger tyres (ie smaller wheels).

Having owned 2 audis then i really cant see the attraction. Rock hard suspension. Well built interiors but soleless. Oh and my a6 sline seats knackered my back after 2 years and 60k miles. Oh and the boot was stupidly small for a supposed estate. TBA I dont get this obsession with engine noise. Comfort, individuality, style, space and intelligent design trumps it for me any day of the week.
So back to 60k for an XC90 or 60k for a Q7? Well the volvo wins for me every day of the week, 2 litre lump or no 2 litre lump. Oh and for some of us the purchase price is irrelevant, the 49g of co2 means that my 70k t8 will be 400 quid a month cheaper, taking all costs in to consideration, than my 44k xc70......

Car perform faultlessly all weekend and handled 4 adults + 1 baby with ease. Annoyingly, I forgot to reset the trip so I'm not sure on the Motherwell to Aviemore MPG. We must have done about 300+ miles and it's only just below half a tank. r.e. the 2.0d engine, this is the one area that I'm not as happy with. Joining a single/dual carriageway that's NSL is not much fun at all. Foot to the floor and it takes a long time to get to 60 when the car is fully laden. Torque for the D5 is 470Nm but the 3.0d Range Rover is 600Nm and a x5 30d is 560Nm. That's a fair shortfall!

Not convinced by volvos new engines or chassis plans. Seems the approach of a budget car maker not a premium one. Worst thing about the new D5 is the cheap sound it makes. It doesn't come close to Bmw's 35d engine. 2 litre diesels belong in hatchbacks. The fwd d4 XC90 is a travesty. Last edited by Kev78; Nov 23rd, 2015 at 15:03. |
