Rear discs and pads.
Hi, bought my first Volvo a couple of weeks ago. It needs rear brakes and pads and I want to do the handbrake pads with all new springs. I have 2.5 185bhp diesel, 2007. can anyone recommend where to buy kits from? the ones on eBay all seem to throw up different sizes etc. I'm new to the car so trying to get up to speed with the knowledge. Are the discs size 288mm? I want to order them so I can fit them when I'm back at home.

The 288mm discs are for the front I would say. Brake discs are probably one of the very few items where I would recommend buying good quality or even original parts. Try FRF in Swansea for a price. I put cheap discs on the front of my S60, and they are terrible.

Rear disk size is 288. Buy quality is what I will say. Have a look on eBay for Volvo genuine I saw rear disks and pads for 100 pounds from a dealer. For that price they are a bargain! And not worth fitting anything else in my opinion because they last. I've fitted aftermarket to both my cars and my s60 has worn the rears out in 30,000 miles. Euro car parts do some good dealers on branded aftermarket to sometimes.
I would however deffinatley fit genuine hand brake shoes, the material is softer than aftermarket ones and grips better. Loads of people complain about the handbrake on these cars but with genuine shoes there is no problem. Fitted them to my s60 and it will hold on the steepest of hills. My v70 has aftermarket fitted and its handbrake is rubbish. Personally if your keeping the car for the long term then find the best price you can on genuine and fit that. On both my cars I've fitted aftermarket and I'm at the point now where I'm sick of replacing stuff that i know genuine would still be in serviceable condition.

Second what has been said by Rossi-fan. I used Volvo original on my V70 but ECP do Pagid discs & pads/shoes which I've used on my other cars.
The caliper mounting bracket bolts are supposed to be replaced when removing them (which you'll have to do to get to the handbrake shoes) and mine came with the Volvo discs but they don't come with the Pagid ones. My local dealer didn't have them in stock and they were on a 3 day order- meant the cost difference wasn't that great. I bought a full spring set from GSF (Delphi parts) when I did the (handbrake) adjusters and expanders at a later date as the small, shoe retaining springs are a right faff to remove without damaging them and the main dealer price is high. The full set was around £10 - 15 when the main dealer wanted around £4 per spring (and they had to order them in) - the full set was 8 springs in total. Might want to think about replacing the "H" section for adjusters and my handbrake expander was worn - parts can be had from several places, bought mine from PFS http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/...ath=52_244_598 GSF spring pack http://www.gsfcarparts.com/parts/bra...oe-fitting-kit Handbrake adjusters http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...sters&_sacat=0

OEM aftermarket parts
PFS are expensive and quality varies. Try these - not to be confused with another Sweedish after market supplier which will remain nameless but is often sold by PFS!

Did yours vibrate from when you fitted them? Did you fastidiously clean your hub mating faces? Are the caliper rattle clips on correctly? Have you fried them by towing a heavy tin tent? Are your tin tent's brakes fried? Last edited by 4candles; Jan 4th, 2016 at 01:12. |

Yeah they all went back on right and were fine for a while, they just started vibrating when the brakes are applied at 50+ mph, like they've gone out of shape. I'll put something better on the front next time.
