Recommissioning Torslanda
Morning all, I'm looking at getting my Torslanda back on the road after a couple of years parked up. The chap who's going to be doing most of the work ( brakes, clutch, belts, filters, fluids, hoses, maybe fuel pump etc) uses Parkers as his supplier, will they have all that's required and of good quality or should we be looking elsewhere for parts?
Cheers all, |

I've never heard of Parkers. I don't live in the UK anymore, but Brookhouse is good. For rubber mounts genuine Volvo ones aren't what they used to be, and I get these from ClassicSwede despite it being in Wales and I'm in Australia. I also still use Skandix despite the shipping cost from Germany. Good luck with the restoration, the 240 remains a lovely car to drive when in good nick.

Parkers is a pretty good mainstream parts supplier, mostly for fairly modern cars (last 20 years) - but it should be able to supply all the generic stuff you need (fluids, filters, belts, that sort of thing - probably brakes and clutch as well). For things like the fuel pump you may have to search a bit wider, but the Internet is fantastic of course. I buy parts from all sorts of places online - including eBay and Amazon (both really useful). I tend to avoid Skandix, the shipping charges would often be far higher than the cost of the item, and I invariably find that with a little ingenuity equivalent parts can be sourced elsewhere. A good example might have been the fuel pump spacer I needed, the listed part from Skandix would have been about £80 with the postage, but by doing a bit of research on the Internet I found exactly the same part was fitted to Volvo Penta marine engines, and so bought one from a boat dealer for less than a quarter of that. Just recently I found that a carburettor solenoid that would have been £100 from Skandix was available from a Classic VW spares supplier for £18 (and it works fine). Good fortune with your motor car, post some pictures and words for us - we are always interested in older Volvos. Alan
