Heater: 850: - 850 HEATER BLOWER / FAN (A/C Model) 1996

WANTED: I am in need of a heater blower / fan assembly to fit a 1996 850 with A/C, standard UK RHD vehicle. I would be happy to take the corresponding fan resistor pack also - I have full climate control.

The Volvo OE part number is 9187652002 which equates to 6820814
The unit was OE supplied by Behr Hella, number 8EW351 041-221 or 9103275
Note: LHD units are not compatible.

Can anyone help me out, please?

Hi and really sorry I didn't reply earlier, I didn't see your message. Yes, I finally managed to get a used one from a dismantlers, they are hard to come by in decent condition though.

The electrical connection plate unclips, and the motor assembly can be withdrawn from the plastic fan housing.

IMHO Do not attempt to remove the blower cage from the shaft as I think it will break. To lubricate the front motor bearing hidden behind the squirrel cage, make an oiler out of a clinical syringe and some thin tube, eg. electrical insulation tube (could even strip off a single wire). Use 3-1 light machine oil and negotiate the oiler tube thus made through the squirrel cage to the front bearing. Do not over oil.

The rear bearing can be easily oiled.

You can clean the motor commutator with a cotton bud and isopropanol / isopropryl alcohol / methylated spirit. If the commutator is heavily scored, you can use fine wet an dry paper or a piece of the wife's emery board, but don't overdo it and be careful of the thin winding tail-outs!

I think the resistors fry if the motor bearings become stiff, drawing too much current. There are several types of resistor depending if you have full climate or not. Scour around the breakers' sites, again hard to find now. Perhaps they are available new from Volvo?
