This afternoon I fitted a new ABS ring to the front offside of my V70, pleased to say it successfully sorted the ABS issue. I had to do it as when I replaced the CV joint boot for the MOT I'd cleaned up around the CV joint before fitting a new stretch type boot, obviously in cleaning up I'd been a little too enthusiastic and 'cleaned away' some of the teeth on the rusty old ring. I only used the stretch boot because I didn't want to have to mess with getting the CV joint off of the shaft in situ on the car and didn't want to remove the whole driveshaft either, but having had to disassemble the wishbone I fitted for the MOT to swing the strut out to disengage the driveshaft from the hub I think I've come to the conclusion that it would have been better to just replace the whole CV joint complete with a new boot for the MOT and saved myself a bit of time and effort, even more so as by the time I'd paid for the boot, the tool to fit it and the ring it wasn't much cheaper than a CV joint.

Finally got around to fitting the new diesel fuel filter I bought before Christmas. It turned out to be a straightforward easy job. I filled the new filter with fresh diesel before fitting and had no difficulty starting afterwards.

I can't remember when it was last done, at least five years ago and probably quite a bit longer. So far as I could see it still looked surprisingly clean judging by what came out of the old one. One more job off the 'to do' list.

Question

Replaced the damaged sidelight/headlamp switch in my C70 and discovered that the dash illumination brightness control was also damaged...hmmm!

On reversing off the drive the front under bumper graunched on the dropped kerb - odd, never done that before!

I discovered that the front bumper underside "bayonets" were projecting below the bumper. As I haven't driven it since it was returned from an MOT I can only assume it was bumped off the inspection ramp too vigorously during that MOT.

Today I finally fixed my interior lights after 3 years not being particularly bothered. I used gaffer tape wrapped around the latch on the body, as opposed to stripping out the lock mechanism on the door. I can now just gently (very gently) close the Driver's door, lock the car and the lights dim. Bliss...

Yesterday noticed that the passenger heated seat switch illumination was not working and presumed that the bulb needed changing.

Not something that was causing an issue as none of my passengers ever use the seat heating, but as the weather was reasonable thought I would tackle it as I have a box of various spare bulbs available.

Removed the switch to find that there was no bulb or bulb holder fitted with no indication that one had ever been fitted.

Only had the car nine years! Did I say that the switch is never used?
