Default Sourcing/programing a remote key fob

Hi,

I have recently bought a 1999 V70 which came with only one key and no fob. It is only a weekend/holiday car so don't want to overspend on it.

Ideally I would like a key fob or at the very least a spare key, are these only available from a main dealer or does anyone have any recommendations of an independent in the Midlands who would be able to assist?

Finally what sort of price should I be looking at for;
1. A spare key
2. A remote fob

Thanks

Hi Hodge4Ever

To be safe, start by getting a physical key cut (eg at Timpsons for about £9).

That way if you lose your key you can at least get the car unlocked and towed away. (But you wont be able to use it to start the car).

There is more info in this forum about getting a key (with security chip) made, so a Forum Search might get you started. That is more expensive.

I have tried in vein to get a new key for my 1997 V70 xc and even the main dealer cannot supply me with a working key that will start the car. You may be lucky on a 1999 model but i have failed miserably.

If anyone has a definite answer please let me know. I am down to one key and no fob

Surprised to read Ammo that your local main dealer cannot supply a working key for a 97 unless you are as lucky as me and Volvo destroyed your rolling code before recording it when moving away from manual records

If ever you are in London Town fella next to Tesco Leytonstone did me a key and programmed fob for 95 quid couple of years ago. When I told him how impressed with him I was he said you should be 99% of the people in this game do not know what they are doing

I made numerous enquiries wasting dozens of hours at the time but watched him get into the immobiliser with ease and the work his magic. Key Faultless ever since

His attitude and customer service stinks but ability beyond criticism

I ordered and paid for a replacement key from Volvo and was told it would take a week to arrive. 3 Months later I was told Volvo couldn't supply the key as their supplier didn't have any and I was given a refund.

There is someone in the Nottingham area who says he can clone keys but amazondean was unsuccessful having his done. Also someone in Ayrshire who says he can clone them and has already done a few for the guys in the Glasgow area

Thanks Steve, that is probably the best place to start.

Looking at the replies I will ask my local dealer and see what they come back with and then see if any of the local indepents can help.

I was told the problem with some cars not being able to have a key made is in the coding when they try to get into the system. There are two different codes. If you are unlucky enough to have my coding you may be stuffed. I have tried three places, including the main dealer and failed. When they try to connect it just wont do it. I don't know what the coding is, as i have about given up

Hi

I haven't used them yet myself, but this company has been recommended to me so intend to use them shortly.

https://www.keymoon.uk/volvo-v70-key-ne66t.html

I think the cheap option is for you to send your one key to them and they clone it, so you will need to email them.

If you do use them, please let us know how it goes.

Hope that helps,
Steve

Steve:~
On the face of it this (Keymoon) contact looks good- Timson shops are very limited in what is available for the early V70 cars, other cars seems to be ok-used them for Vauxhall (see other post relating) the shops are now on a franchise basis and not all have the coding facilities.

The new contact looks to supply a normal un-coded key & complete with a hollow body to enable a chip to be exchanged as done with a Vauxhall etc.
Thanks Bob.

If I have read that correctly: you send them your existing key, they cut a new one and transfer the transponder and send the new key back. You then end up with one new key, but the old key will not work. The new key may be in better condition, but you still only have one working key.
