Another excellent work-avoidance opportunity here! Since 1996, I've had:

1989 Land Rover 90 Diesel Turbo - 85bhp when they weren't escaping through a blown exhaust or being TWOCed. First car, had it for 6 weeks

1992 Golf CL auto - 75bhp - boring but dependable. Even took a glider to Scotland with it.

1993 Mercedes 320E auto - 220bhp. Went like stink in a straight line and seemed to do 25mpg no matter how you drove it, so I tended to drive it like stink. Didn't really do corners though, and was fond of visits to the garage. (Even 80s Mercs will end up as bangers if previous owners haven't looked after them.)

2002 Passat V6 TDI - 150bhp. Lovely engine, I went for the V6 partly to have something a bit different and partly so I wasn't going to spend months trawling the pages and pages of 4-bangers.

2011 BMW 330d - 245bhp. "Ah, this what a car that doesn't understeer feels like," I said on the test drive as I rapidly retrained myself not to aim for 2 feet inside the apex of the corner.

After my now-ex-wife and I decided to get rid of the disaster of our 2016 S-Max, we replaced it with a 2015 V70 D5. I found that if both cars were in the drive, I'd often choose to take the Volvo. Which meant that when we split up and I decided it was time for a change, away went the BMW and in came the ...

2019 V90 T5 - 250bhp

And despite some recent niggles and annoyances, I don't think the V90 will be leaving any time soon.
