I ordered spare keys from Volvo back in April and was told it would tke about 7-10 days, after 14 days I called and they said they were having problems getting them from the manufacturer. Called every week for 3 months after no keys I was told they couldn't fulfill the order and refunded me

Option maybe is to find s/h key and barrels for door & ignition...
If you can find any, I had to do this on my 850 a few years ago but parts seemed easier to find then.

Yes volvo can supply a mechanical key cut to suit your car, it will need programming to the Immobiliser at the dealer .

I was the last person to post on that link in the above post. I am still waiting for someone to actually be successful at having a working key made that actually starts the car!!

If you've got a car from after about 98 or 99 the code in the key is a 'rolling code' which is reset every time the key is used so you can't get a cloned key, it's a dealer computer job at a price! If you've got a key (no help to john-sussex) you can get a mechanical copy made at the likes of Timpsons (mine had to order the blank specially) but it doesn't have a chip. It will get you into the car on its own and start the car if the original key is next to the ignition switch to send/receive the code, so one could get as many copies as you want and stick the original key inside the steering column.

Are they sending out one of their key assist boys to cut new keys or will it be done via dealer?

....just curious!

Their boys won't do Volvo's, so they are covering the cost from the main dealers. Thankfully
