Default XC60 rear child seat problem

So I've had the XC60 for six weeks and this last week was the first time we switched the Maxi Cosi car seats over from the wife's Qashqui.

I was alarmed to see how poorly the seats fit in th rear of the XC60, mainly hindered by the non movable headrest. The seat just won't sit back in the seats and slide about horribly on the leather.

I went to try out an Isofix Recaro seat today and it wasn't a lot better, again hindered by the headrest. So I called my Volco dealer and asked about the Volvo seats and the guy said they don't fit in very well either and are just rebranded Britax seats.

Who has a decent fitting rear booster back seat for 3 & 5 year olds?

Little Miss Me is now 5 and uses the Volvo integrated seat now.

The cynical bit in me wonders if Volvo are not overly concerned with kids seats because they have these?

Anymahoooo

We have a couple of high backed boosters from the years BV (rather than BC - you see what I did there?) so when Mrs Me gets home I will try them out and let you know how well they fit. Sometime later this evening. Feel free to nag me if I forget. I forget things now. I'm getting old. And tired.

I will be shortly moving over to these type of seat for my eldest, there is a link on this thread with some experience from another member who managed to get his Maxci-Cosi to fit.

Please keep me posted, as you may well help me chose my next one too.

That would have been me ;-)

I also have the family pack with the integrated seats - makes life so much easier and the kids feel proper grown up with the same seats as mummy and daddy...

We do have a MaxiCosi fitted for my 3 year old most of the time and for long trips (easier to fall asleep in). Its a Rodifix and the photos from the post are here http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...3&postcount=17

I have exactly the same problem as the OP (I think I did a thread about it 2 or 3 years ago). I even went out and bought 2x Volvo seats thinking they would fit properly, and that was a waste of money. I'm quite surprised that a manufacturer like Volvo which is so safety focussed can be so blase about this.

My kids are getting bigger so we often do away with the full seats except for longer journeys where the side support makes it more comfortable for them to have a snooze. I wish now that I'd specced the kids pack with the integrated boosters but the kids will soon be at the size where they don't need boosters at all and we're planning on keeping the XC60 for a few years yet.

I second that after my children went in test vehicle with family pack, I literally had no choice but to get XC60.

My maxi cosi isofix (ferofix) doesn't foul the headrest and being isofix fits securely

Edit, sorry, looks like it is no longer available to buy

Family pack didn't appear to be viable option for me as its a company car with a maximum monthly allowance and my eldest was only 2 when I got the car, with the second child was still on the way, so over the 4 years most I'd get is 2 years use with 1 of them and dont like the idea of a 3 / 4 year old not having side support.

I'm sure there is a logical reason why the head rests are fixed (but still the figure this out), but given its a family car it does appear odd that the design isn't geat for high back booster seats.

I like the idea of the Britax XP seat, so will be trying that out in the coming months when the time is right for my eldest to move into the next stage seat

What seats did you / do you use?

In the end we stuck with the Volvo seats and accepted they don't fit very well - we couldn't really see any other option as all of those car seats have the same fundamental design so would have the same problem.

At this stage, they are only boosters to make the seat belts fit properly rather than the more protective things you get for younger children. My eldest has just turned 8 (and tall for his age - he's already 135cm which is the height at which you don't officially need a child car seat) so we're already often using a basic booster for him and it won't be that long before we don't even need that. Even his younger brother can happily move to a basic booster soon.
