But the iPod should not have a flat battery as it is charged whilst it is plugged in to the USB port, my iPod does this occasionally and I never disconnect it from the car so in theory it should never be flat.......I have however noticed that the connect iPod message can occur if you switch off the car and then turn it back on again relatively quickly i.e. popping into the shop etc

You said that if you don't use the car you get this, me too and it's simply the ipod battery not being charged that causes it.

When did I say this? The original comment by mordred 1973 was that if the car has been used and then left a while the iPod needs to be reconnected, my comment was similar in that one minute it's ok but then if I pop into the shop (for example) and then restart the car the iPod has to be reconnected (with a full battery).....it almost points to the iPod crashing.
Very occasionally I have had to to do a cold start on the iPod to get it to connect as unplugging and then plugging it back in does not work (again a full battery) which also points to the iPod crashing.

Believe it or not but an iPod classic battery has an excellent battery life, I actually suspect that the Volvo system somehow intermittently causes the iPod to crash when the system shuts down (although I'm not sure why?).

I was originally responding to the previous post (mordred1973) not yours. Anyway, the only time I get this problem is when I have not used the car for a while, when I use it frequently, as is normal I never get it.
