Hi SuperB, my XC60 is model year 2012, similar to yours, and I too can see no point in buying a new one with the new generation on the horizon.
My wife took a fancy to a CRV, but I couldn't see it as a direct replacement for the XC. In the end, we traded in her car for a pre-facelift CRV - so we now have both! I have not yet done a significant journey in the Honda to see how it stacks up on a long run, but initial thoughts after 1,000 miles in six weeks are... On balance the XC is by far the nicer car to be in...much more substantial in a solid car sense, bigger all round and probably safer. However, the CRV has many plus points and would undoubtedly tick a lot of boxes for many people. I have the 2 ltr petrol auto, which is very smooth and very quiet - so much so it makes me think I'm in an electric car with only tyre hum getting through into the cab! Impressive!! When I switch from the CR to the diesel XC, it's like changing to a tractor! Steering is more direct in the Honda, better than the XC's lighter, floatier set-up. Surprisingly, for a smaller car, there is more room in the Honda for occupants presumably because the seating is less substantial. Much more leg room in the back, and no need to otch the front seats forward. Also, there is no transmission tunnel. I think the rear seats are set a little further back, which of course means the rear load capacity is smaller (with intruding wheel arches as well). Much more plastic in the Honda, which might seem practical but in reality means there's more to scratch! Of course, the Honda is considerably cheaper and doesn't suffer from the many silly "Volvo-isms" that I have had to live with in the XC. Well equipped with a rear camera as standard and mine so far squeak-free and no faults to report. So, could I live with the CRV as my main car? Possibly, it does everything well and no doubt will be utterly reliable. But some say it's a tad boring, and I think I agree. I still love driving the XC. It has great road presence and just feels like a quality car. The new generation XC60 will probably be ground-breaking and very desirable. But it's two or three years away...it will initially be top dollar, with no discounts or nearly-new deals for a long time. That will make it hard to justify...probably out of my league...
