Monroe are acceptable but perhaps not a long term option.

Sachs touring with the blue sticker should work as the original suspension. Don't touch to Sachs white sticker or Boge white sticker, these are terrible.

There is also Koni FSD with a reputation of better comfort and handling compared with Bilsteins but at a higher price

I have Bilstein B4's. These are a bit jiggly, but not annoyingly so. Also look at your tyres skeptically - old hard worn tyres have *way* less grip than nice new sexy ones.

Pacman, I remember you from the P2 forum. Do you think your P3 handles worse than your previous P2??
I've a foot in both camps running an 2015 V70 D5 man. as well as my AWD R and I have to say I have no real issues on the diesels handling, the steering's a bit numb, but I can live with it. I do have the self levelling suspension fitted for when I tow my van, but the AWD R still does that so effortlessly I've never got round to it in the Diesel.
Tyres are 225/50 17 Michelins

Hope you get sorted..

Cheers

Bob

Bob, my p2 v70 d5 has the dynamic chassis and tbh was pretty dam hard, and the steering was very light. My p2 xc70 was very nice to drive, the higher position and p2 seats are better than p3, not that p3 are bad. The xc was a bit soggy and mine was petrol, I think a d5 with the greater torque are better suited. The p3 is more refined and updated, and the 205 d5 is superb. Tbh there's not much in a later p2 and a P3. If I had my time again I'd actually have a late fully loaded xc70 d5, just because there more Volvo if you know what I mean.

Increasing tyre pressures doesn't improve cornering. Here's what I did in my P2 V70:

* Rotate the tyres front to back (the back ones had more tread);
* Check the tracking (it was out, not by much, but enough)

Previously I have changed shocks and roll bar bushes and this has made a big difference.

If none of that works, and you're remembering "slow in, fast out", then you have o option but to do what I eventually did: go for an AWD version :-)

Earlier V70's were fitted with 245 width tyres, I believe the drop to 235 came later to try and cheat the emmissions/economy tests and give better results.!

Courier has delivered my bargain alloys today, a set of Sleipner 18,s with tyres, 235 40 18, which are one of the sizes listed in the accessories catalogue, but it seems for my chassis number 245 40 18 is the correct size. I'm now thinking of Bilstein B4, 18,s, with some progressive rear coil springs for when towing, and later an up rated rear arb. There's also some thought about the Monroe reflex shocks, it seems they have a lifetime warranty against fading as well as fault.

Car came with crappy budget tyres on so I changed them. I wasn't sure wether the b4 set up would be soft as its described as oem set up.

I am really interested in finding alternatives as well to replace my factory shocks.
The Bilstein B4s seem the obvious stock replacement and seem to have proven quality.
Has anyone used the Monroe Reflex? How do they compare in terms of build quality? I believe they only have a 3 year limited warranty in the UK.
I had Koni FSDs on a previous S60 and can say I was disappointed by them - the ride was initially amazing but I suspect dodgy build quality caused them to deteriorate shortly after so I wouldn't be in a hurry to try Konis again.
