I have sent you a message because I would like the car to go to somebody who would appreciate it and get some use out of it, rather than selling it for scrap.

Please let your members know this classic Volvo is up for auction. Thank-you.
Contact the seller via ebay.

not a bad looking car to have as a project!would benefit from a gas conversion to make it more economical though.I have always liked the more pronounced grill and bulge in the bonnet just like my first 240 B reg DL.Maybe I should have kept the bonnet when I scrapped it(full of rot) and set about doing a retro fit on one of my newer 240's?
Hope someone on here buys it £185 and four bids and still about nine days to go.
regards brian.

Hi John I once owned a 3 Litre Austin(landcrab style)wasn't until I scrapped it I found out just how rare the four speed manual with overdrive in third and fourth was.It was a straight six rear wheel drive and they were only built for three years,There wasn't the market demand for them.I really loved the twin headlights and veneer dash,it had armrests in the front like an armchair.I recently spotted one in a classic car mag for three thousand pounds.it also had hydrolastic self leveling suspension. Also watched one on the bay didn't reach the reserve and ended at £2.300ish.
Wished I'd kept the engine now.
I wonder why I like the big boxy 240's.
Regards Brian.

Hi Stiggy your correct as usual,The chrome was awesome on the three litre it had a really wide aluminium grill and chrome around the headlights.chrome doorhandles, gutters wheel trims rear window surrounds front quarterlight surrounds the list goes on and on not to mention the wrap around chrome bumpers with chrome overriders..I will get on our main pc in a bit and find some piccies, although not of my three litre it will give you some idea.
Thanks Brian.

Yeah, it was a strange car the 3 litre. The centre bodyshell section from the 1800, but with longer bonnet and boot grafted on, and changed to longitudinal engine and rwd.

I bet Issigonis hated it - no more interior space than his 1800, but loads bigger and heavier!

I think the 3 litre sold badly because people realised that a twin carb 1800S had the same cabin space, handled better, was nearly as fast and used half as much fuel! Maybe it would have been better is they tarted it up a bit more and badged it Vanden Plas or Riley or something.
