Default Gearbox woes

Hi all,

Having a nightmare with my S40. Apparently according to Volvo it has a 8251416 or 30613755 JC5 Renault box. These are rather expensive to buy in the UK. Any other boxes would fit directly, or does it have to be this one only?

Regards

James

The renault gearboxes in the 1.6 & 1.8 are interchangeable with each other. Driveshafts, clutch, etc are the same so are a direct swap, the only difference is with the gear ratios.

Thanks. Had to bite the bullet and get one shipped from Lithuania. Only JC5 box that was affordable. Nobody in the UK has kept these cars for parts. They seem to be getting rare nowadays.

Had the same issue with my 1.8 BiFuel. Renault equivalent cable operated.
Located one in Malaga scrappy, they wanted 250€. I soldiered on....engine started to consume oil so binned it. Saved 250€!

My diff went bang very impressively so I need to replace it. Annoyingly the rest of the car is in good nick with plenty of work done on it. Just a difficult part to find.
