Just need to locate the fill and drain bolts, fill was close to where the driveshaft goes if I remember correctly, I don't remember any real issues with access although some socket extensions and leverage is required to crack the bolts and without a lift this can be harder, but like I say I managed and have no bad memories of doing it!
Can I ask why you changed the gearbox oil?
I am having problems with my D5 grating 3rd gear when cold.

Best check that; the oil regime has now changed on these Aisin so called 'sealed for life' g/ boxes. Now fluid change at 5 years or 90k for all. Towing etc remains the same every other year.

I hope the OP doesn't mind if I revive his tread and add my experience of recently changing Manual gearbox oil on my 2009 XC60 D5 (SE LUX) AWD.
It's definitely not expensive, not difficult to do (especially if you're handy with the spanners) and can be done on your driveway, although using a 2 post ramp to raise the vehicle while keeping it level when off the ground will help with refilling the correct amount of 75W Fully Synthetic gear oil (1.9 litres) according to Comma Oil website.
I did mine on my driveway and raised both the nearside front and nearside rear of the vehicle to keep it level (front to back)
Considering what came out of my original 11 year old / 145K miles gearbox I would highly recommend doing this job as a preventative measure before having serious and irreversible gearbox issues.
I have a few "step by step" gear oil change pix (if anyone is interested) but for now I will include a couple of pix to show the difference between Old & New gear oil.

You have not compared like for like there , The volvo oil is that colour when new and being synthetic is still perfect at doing it's job . Oil changing is not an issue with manual gearboxes and axles especially in a car as "new" as yours :-)

You're right... it's not a 100% like for like comparison (Volvo dealers are currently shut) but I truly can not believe that fresh Volvo oil for the manual transmission is this dark brown and non translucent 11 year old and 145K miles is not exactly new, even for a Volvo
£18 for 2 litres of correct grade 75W fully synthetic gear oil, £0.50 for couple of copper washers and an hour of my time is a small price to pay for peace of mind

you would be surprised how many 25 + year old 850's ( same basic gearbox ) are still going around with the original gearbox oil , no problem at all , that is why synthetic oil is synthetic I would change mineral oil very 10 years ......👍🏻

Volvo 850's and cars like M-B W124 are from a very different era when cars (and their major components) were build to last. While MK1 XC60s are relatively well build, FORDs retrospective ownership and involvement did unfortunately lower the overall quality of the Volvo brand. There are way too many FoMoCo parts on my XC60 for my personal liking. Isn't this gearbox also found in date relative FORD cars like the Kuga, MK4 Mondeo, S-Max & the Galaxy ?

Please understand, I'm not having a pop at FORD as they service a very different mass market segment of the Auto industry and make fine product in that segment.

Also as I'm sure you've already gathered I'm a strong advocate of preventative maintenance with many years of practice to minimise and hopefully avoid scenarios like this:

Quite impressed to see that you did it on your own successfully. I would like to do the same for my xc60 D4 AWD manual. I got to check for the same brand in Halfords and ordered for 12.99£ each. May I pls know where you happen to get for 18£? and where are those copper rings bought as well? Do they act as additional seals in drain plug?

To be fair I'm a qualified "Spanner Monkey" so not really that impressive but thanks for the compliment
I purchased the COMMA gear oil from Halfords too but... I have their TRADE card which at times is quite generous with discount
The copper washers are THE actual seal (not additional seal) and can be bought loose from any decent ironmonger or automotive supplies outlet. IIRC the washer size is 18 mm, same as engine oil sump plug washer so it's worth buying a few extra ones for future use.
Good tip here is... always make sure to undo the fill plug first before the drain plug.

Default manual xmission oil change

Hi AutoAddict,
I happened to message you few days ago in the below thread regarding manual xmission oil change

Finally I attempted it today but after removing the air filter box, I couldnt spot the transmission oil fill plug/nut and had to close down everything back.

I am not sure how to attach an image to this msg. hence put it over here,
https://postimg.cc/QBRy9s26/e26acd73

would be really helpful if you can spot the nut in the above photo to open up and fill in the xmission fluid.
Thank you.

Mine is a volvo xc60 2014 D4 AWD manual transmission. MMT6 gearbox.
