Hi Graham,
In the M40 and M41 boxes the lockout bar which is attached to the spring in the lid, inhibits 2 gears from being selected at the same time. To lock up the gearbox for dismantling purposes, you simply select 2 gears by manually pushing two selectors. A few years ago i purchased a second hand M40 gearbox where the lockout bar had been broken in the past. The bar is made from hardened steel and had been welded to repair it by a previous owner. If I had your issue I would investigate and rectify this before using the car. If you have parked it forwards in the garage I guess you wont be using it! Good luck with the repair and hoping it is a simple fix. Chris |
