If you travel to another country, you can select that particular country instead of doing them all.

That`s how I do my updates now.
Exactly 👍😉

That is a very good point you make. Just shows people (myself included) can always find something to complain about.

I think the free OTA updates (or via USB) are brilliant!!

I hear BMW (for example) charge for map updates.

And as has been said before, you dont have to dobthe updates, and i onky update NWE. Should I travel to Europe I'll do the appropriate update via USB.

Additionally, if folk don't want OTA the can always deselect auto update....

Before my XC90 I had a Freelander 2 from new , I had it for 5yrs . Not once did I get a free map update, I think JLR were looking for something like £200 per update. I have an old Tom Tom sat nav that had free lifetime updates, I kept that in the car for emergencies. I love the fact that Volvo give you free updates.
What does annoy me is that if you search for something/someplace on the cars sat nav and it doesn’t show up but if you do the same search on the Volvo app it’s there.

A little advice re Tom Tom free updates, do not update the Tom Tom app you use to update your maps, I have an old Tom Tom with free lifetime updates which was great until I was invited and urged to update to the latest app.
After updating the app my olderTom Tom was no longer compatible and I could not connect it to the app, so it can no longer update maps and the old app is no longer available. Tom Tom very generously offered to sell me a vastly overpriced new SatNav. I still use my Tom Tom in my Defender TD5. I won't be buying a new one. (Tom Tom or a Defender)

My Tom Tom only downloads via a pc , yes it’s that old & tbh looks very very dated .

Mine updated the same as yours on my pc/laptop until I updated the Tom Tom software. Then it would not connect to the new download software. (I called it an app but it was the the Tom Tom software that they asked to update to latest version)
My Tom Tom is a very old (XL one model) but it still updated on the old version of the software. Sadly no more with newer version.

The 2018 V90 would update the northern europe maps over the air automatically, usually once or twice a month, however the XC40 won't update over the air its such a step backwards! Anyone else managed to get the smaller map regions to update automatically over the car modem?

The OTA updates use very little data, the last few NWE updates I carried out only used 200 - 300mb of data.
