Unfortunately I raised this issue several times to two dealers and they have no clue about it.

It is sad to have nowdays technical personnel with so limited information on how the cars they are servicing operate.

Apologies for brining this post back to top, but I would like to ask if everyone does have the private locking function in their cars, regardless model or engine or trim. If you all do then is a pdi failure on my car that they forgot to activate it and I can ask them to do so when I will go to replace under recall the rear hatch struts.

Thank you

Unless there is a geographical difference in the specs there would not appear to be any differences, ie Greece and UK, as the S90 Momentum trim in mine does include Private Locking.

I have an XC90 MY2016, and while it's a great car its software has always been extremely glitchy (heating needed to be fixed, screens black out, random error messages), sudden breaking etc). I have put up with these, though my wife would rather we bought something more stable instead - the car drives her nuts.

The latest issue though isn't (I think) a glitch. I had the care valeted on Saturday morning, but when I got back home I discovered the boot wouldn't work. We thought at first it was a key issue, but then noticed the glovebox wouldn't open; it asked for a code. Looking in the manual, we discovered private locking. We have never set this up, or used it (unless my 9 year old has been fiddling....) and so I can only assume that in cleaning the screen, the valet happen to accidently trigger it. Anyway, we have neither a code, nor a "superior code" which is apparently the override code needed if you've forgotten the onetime pin.

I used Volvo On Call to talk to Volvo, and they sent me a Pin number. However, it didn't work and seems to be the Pin number needed to link your car to your Volvo On Call subscription. The chap at Volvo On Call though didn't seem to be able to do anything else. Equally, neither the Volvo on call app on my iPhone, nor a factory reset of the car settings (which was a pain, as we lost all navigation history and user profiles) has sorted this. So, now we have car whose tailgate cannot be opened.

We will take to Doves in Croydon to sort, but our experience there has typically been that they are not so hot on the software issues and the car ends up staying there for ages.

As such, I wondered if anyone knew of a quick fix? I assume not (as it would devalue the whole concept) and I haven't found anything on the web, but I'm keen to avoid driving to Croydon if I can help it.....

Thanks for any help

Will
Hello, I know this is an old thread, but hoping you will see this and be able to help!! The exact same thing has happened to us with our XC90. Volvo dealers have reset the car and lost all my husbands work info, which he is not impressed by. And Volvo on call can't help us either....just wondered how/if you managed to open your boot eventually??!

Hi Steve, Just wondered how you managed to de activate the private locking in the end? The same thing has just happened to us with our XC90. Volvo dealer has reset the car, which is a nightmare in itself. And Volvo on Call cannot help...nobody seems to know what to do. We have never set up private locking, and my 4 yr old was playing around with the screen yesterday. She has somehow manage to activate the private locking, but we don't know of any security code to deactivate it. Thanks. Rosanna

Did anyone sort out why is the button missing on some models? I’m in the group of people who completely lack this feature...

Thanks!

Just unlock your car with the Volvo on Call app

So am I.

After a long search between Volvo Greece and the dealer, I have been told that for all XC60 models other than the T8, if you do not have the original alarm system installed, you do not get neither private locking nor a locking fuel door flap. (The T8 has the locking flap since they have an extra button on the front left console)

Always talking about the Greek market though since in the US for example the alarm is a standard feature.

That must be it then, I remember not ordering the alarm option as it didn’t influence the insurance premium, therefore being useless to me.

Thanks!
