Sometimes mists up after you drive off, if damp clothing etc.

That never happened to me.
If the windscreen mists up you can use the button next to the volume knob.

Yes I can, if you have it that turns on the electric windscreen!

Works when the engine is cold unlike the fan assist.

Its cold damp and in winter very icy around here.

I've had them both in the past (not together!) and I think it's just a matter of taste. Personally I prefer the HUD, far more of a safety feature and so intuitive so you don't need to take your eyes off the road. Plus with remote start who needs the heated screen anymore

I am lucky enough to have one car with HUD and one with heated screen. Whilst I occasionally like the heated screen for 2 minutes on a cold morning, the HUD is useful almost all of the time, particularly the speed limit vs actual speed bit.

So choosing again I would have the HUD.

I've got a heated windscreen, my old man has a HUD. My girlfriend has a heated windscreen on her car, and when I met her my 2016 Superb didn't have one, but I drove my dad's car with the HUD regularly and thought I loved it. When torn between the HUD and windscreen when buying mine, I went for the windscreen and can't say I've ever missed having the HUD.
