Smile Engine numbers

Hi all,
Help would really be appreciated on the following question...........
V5 on my 1964 P1800S says engine fitted to car is number: 4990........but engine in car is numbered: 4069.
Does anyone know if these are (hopefully) the same spec, or different. If they are the same, any ideas how I can get proof?
Any ideas greatly appreciated, it's a long story as to why it's imperative they are the same spec.
Cheers and muchas gracias.

Not sure what V5 is. Heres a listing below of engines that might help.

The ultimate authority is to contact Volvo archive (search this forum) and ask for your build sheet, give them your serial number of vehicle and they will give you info including serial number of engine.

V5 is a UK registration document - it essentially proportions responsibility for taxation. Many people mistakenly think it is proof of ownership.

The issuing authority the DVLA is famous for not being good with numbers so I wouldn't put too much effort into worrying about what is written on a V5. I think I am correct in saying that the data entry of most originally registered UK vehicles in this forum section would have been done in a period where the responsibilities of the DVLA were performed by local authorities.

If you want to match a serial number to a chassis I understand the Volvo museum is able to help. I think this is a more reliable way of getting all juicy about "matching numbers"
