New cam and followers fitted. And even if I wanted to I don't have the facilities to do it.

Well I think that I have found the root of the noise, this section of the fiber wheel hadn't been exposed fully previously.New gears ordered. All that remains is the removal of gears. The big nut on fiber is first problem then the crank gear. Life would be simpler but boring without problems!

I'm not sure what exactly I see in the pictures, but it looks like some worn teeth. On just one section of the gear??

Didn't you replace the camshaft this past winter? How did the gears look at that time? I assume you had to take the gears off as part of the camshaft replacement. Was this just something that happened within the last few miles since your rebuild?

If you look closely there quite a few broken teeth. To be honest I didn't pay enough attention to the gears, carelessness on my part,I was more focused on pistons and bearings.Saw the wear but thought that I could get away with it! Was short of dosh so didn't go looking for trouble."Slaps his own wrist"Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa"

Well, look at it this way: At least I won't make the same mistake.

Before and after, should run more quietly now. If changing timing gears with engine in situ make sure that you loosen off the rocker shaft to allow the cam gear to rotate slightly as the gears mesh

A useful tip if you think it's needed. Never heard that mentioned before.

Does the B16 have an oiler jet for the gears? Can't see one in the pictures. B18/20/30 do have one. One advantage of the B16, as shown here, is that the timing cover is seperate from the sump, unlike the B18 etc.
