As its listed as a GLT turbo,
If the capacity is correct, and it's not a significantly modified engine ;-) it's a T5.

As to the trim level, well that's a different matter.

I have always wondered what trim level my car is, it just states T-5 Auto but the bloke I bought the car off had a T5 manual S model it seemed to be pretty basic compared to mine although he had spent lots of money on it and was extremely clean but basic cloth trim, mine has blue half leather no electric seats, has e/front windows not rear, Air conditioning, no climate control, has headlight wipers, computer, no cruise, e/sunroof, boot spoiler, cup holders that pull out, I was just interested to find what trim level it was, I know you get T5 CD as top of the range this seems somewhere in the middle, any ideas?

I think there's quite a degree of variance in trim levels. From what I understand - certainly in the model years that my S70 comes from - that it's largely a case of combining packages, and some options.

For example, my S70 is notionally an SE spec. It has a sunroof, manual air-con, fabric seats, rear integrated booster, cruise control, information centre, externally: 15" alloys, boot spoiler (I took it off years ago, though), front fogs (spit).

Now I remember looking at the brochure for that era, and noting that there must be the odd item there that wasn't standard as per the spec - so I think there's no absolute where spec is concerned - it just seems to be a general indication.

And I'm sure, some people know the claimed specs by rote - but in the end, I'm not sure it serves you well - you go look at a car, and your bound to find some exceptions. The way I look at it, you consider the engine you want, and the spec / features you want. Otherwise, getting too tied up about the trim level just seems to be a bit pointless.

Default T5's

I was a little confused myself.

I bought a T5.

The log book says 850 S

The insurance companies and anywhere that recognises your car from the reg say 850 R.

However, without getting too hung up on things - it is a turbo thank goodness - and it has full leather and aircon etc - so im happy to call it an 850 S.

Goes like stink!

Thing is, though, it may well be an S - that's just the trim, S, SE, CD (possibly XT?) GLT. As I understand it, it was perfectly possible to buy a T5 with the S trim level.

A V5 may not mention T5 - it's not a trim level, and outside of those informed about Volvos, doesn't speak as to the capacity.

If your V5 has the capacity as 2319, then it's a T5 - because there were no NA engines with that capacity.

So I wouldn't get too hung up on what's on V5s, IME they're notoriously vague, and in some cases wrong where model are trim are concerned.

You are certainly right, a I said before Iam having trouble with a car I sold, on the logbook it was registered in 2001 and says what model it is and trim level so I advertised it as such, the people who bought the car off me are now kicking up a stink, they checked with Vosa online and its coming back as a basic car registered 1999, these customers are now implying that I changed the trim level on the logbook when I put a cherished numberplate on in January, I did no such thing, you can tell the car is top of the range with the trim level on it, there is bviously a mistake been made somewhere so getting back to the point at hand they do and have made significant mistakes, DVLA and VOSA

Trim levels on 850's generally are a complete and utter nightmare, there were many changes to the specs over the production run and they also changed the model designations. The spec levels were quite odd too and everything was available as an optional extra anyway.

Best advice I can give is don't worry about the badging just treat each car on it's merits.

It may be some sort of gas recirc pipe, in different countries the emmision laws are a lot tighter and this may be some thing to do with it
