Here in the states the GLT means Grand Lux Touring. It has nothing to do with the powertrain, just the trim package. They were basic 850's with up-level interior. They were designated that way until 1998.

I've been reading these posts with great interest and was about to list all the various 850 engine variations, but it looks like the forum have around at the essential fact that the only engine designated as a T5 is the 2319cc, however there are other turbocharged 850 Volvo engines that don't carry the T5 designation.
Without trying to muddy the waters or be contradictory, Volvo made 2.0 litre turbo charged engines for a limited amount of European countries (Italy was one) and these also carry the designation T5. There were not many of these engines produced compared to the 2319 cc engines. Because they are not all that common the 2.0 litre T5 engine rarely rate a mention in T5 discussions. |

Hi, I had a 1999 v70 2.4T which I thought was quite fast, where does this fit in because most of the v70s you see on the road seem to be 2.5. Ian

So 2.4T is the same as the 2.5T - same capacity, same lpt. Engine management may have moved on - a lot of the modern volvo engines have VVT. |

I noticed there was a 2.0 t5 and the power output is more than a 2.5 lpt, also another question, are some of the V70 t5s a 2.4? as some are badged as such and when you look at the inlet manifold its totally different to the 2.3, I heard of a lot of 2.0 t5s in Italy where my friend lives
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_850 check out this link at the bottom where it has a table of engines, power output etc, you can see the 2.0 t5 in there

There are some 2.4 T5's out there i.e. the last few years of the V70/S60 phase 2 T5's were 2.4 litre (2401cc) and got the inlet and exhaust manifolds from the "R" engine. The V70 Classic/Phase 1 T5's were always 2.3 litre engines in the UK.

So were the 850 touring cars 2.0 T5's or just N/A 2.0?
