XC90 frozen door syndrome
I have never had a car that suffers as bad as the new XC90 with frozen doors, (door frozen to body and seals) so you cant open the doors, especially the rear passenger doors.
There is a real risk of breaking the door handles pulling on them, this happened to me last year after pulling to open a frozen door the handle would not go back flush to door and I had to have it repaired. Also with the very cold spell the rear window heater melts the snow and ice which runs down and re-freezes in the gap between bumper and tailgate. |

Thanks, going to have to do something before another door handle incident, I know to expect it and dont pull too hard but passengers just try and pull as hard as they can. I had to open the front door and lean in and push rear door from inside while passenger held handle on outside today. Its embarassing when you have an expensive car like this.
I think someone else said petrolium jelly stops it but have not tried it. I never had this problem with my 3 MK 1 XC90s. Last edited by nu11eaf; Dec 12th, 2017 at 10:55. |

Wow gents it sounds like it is really full on around there. What temperatures are we talking? It would be good to know how to solve this.
Down sarf it only just below freezing so my winters do not feel like a complete waste they did the last two winter seasons. Frozen doors casts me back to the childhood. Half an hour idling with super inefficient engine with heater full on used to do the job. That was with highly heat conductive steel cars that just worked like a radiator. It’s these new things very little radiates out. Probably worth someone with language skills going round skandi car forums as I imagine they deal with this problem all the time.

Had this happen to me this morning, but not with Volvo. Kids couldn't open the rear door at all. I had to pull the door open with a bit more force on my Mazda.

autoglym vinyl and rubber care works well to protect any door seal and helps with them not freezing to the body

It's the top of the doors that freeze on the XC90, there is a hard plastic strip on the top of the door that freezes to the top of the door frame. I spray silicon lube on the frame and plastic strip to prevent it.
Lots of XC60 owners complain about the bottom door mud trap.

Oh??? I thought it’s only me!! My S90 rear passenger door can’t close if I open it on a frozenday! I thought Sweden is colder than UK by miles... do our Swedish Volvo owners have the same problems?
I’m sending my car in for sevice in 2 weeks time and not sure how to proof what I’ve experienced.
