Sounds like you are an unlucky one where the element has broken and now needs replaced.

The common reason for the element to fail is people kneeling or children standing on the seats. I'm not sure how easy it is to relace on the V50 but or even if it can be, but I bet it is a right PITA! I done a new heating pad on my old 360 GLT many years ago but that was relatively simple.

Hi just a quick up date the upper part of the drivers seat has started to heat up again not as hot as it should be but you can feel heat coming from it which once again Leeds me to the same question can anyone tell me if the top and bottom part of the seat are linked or are they seperately powered and do the run through a relay . Thanks

They are separate parts, each has it's own part number and they are stuck onto cushions and just plug into the big electrical connectors under the seats. The temperature is regulated by CCM and SHM. When you press the button on your console the Climate Control Module sends a signal to CEM which in turn activates the seats SHM according to your car's configuration. Fist of all check the wires and connectors under the seats and fuses which are located on the CEM box, F60 and F61 and also main fuse F3 (engine bay).
