Default Where is the intercooler?

I'm guessing its under the driver side headlight is that correct?

Also is there any quick way of checking it? On my golf I could remove a plastic vent cover thing in the bumper off and see it.

Thanks in advance.

On my 1.6d I had to remove the bumper cover to get at it. It sits at the bottom in front of the radiator.

Look through the lower front grille, the one at fog light height - the radiator looking thing you can see is the intercooler.

Awesome guys thanks for the responses. I actually thought that was the radiator.

Next question is what are the symptoms of a cracked leaking intercooler?

Thanks guys

I expect you would get oil spotting depending on the location of the damage and a whooshing sound when the turbo spools up, poor economy/performance, BLACK smoke from the exhaust under acceleration. Maybe even em light.

Would a V70 intercooler fit on S40 models? The stock look's very small.

You need to do a search both on here and the wider net but in short NO.

You can get various other 3rd party upgrade intercoolers but some involve cutting away some of the inside of the front bumper to make room. Do a search for 'Bell' 'Elevate' 'Heico'.

Here is a thread that will help you on your way - LINKY!

The otehr thing to do is talk to Shark Performance as they have just done some R&D work on an intercooler for the S40/V50/C30/C70 which is ready to be purchased (Pace Products Intercooler iirc).

No but the cooling effect of the intercooler are determined by surface area and thickness. How much is the one you posted above Sony?

The reason I asked, cause I've heard loads of people talking about this on a few forums. Just curious if it is possible or not, answer is clearly No (obviously).

I will have a read on that link, cheers..

What problems are you having that make you think that you could have a damaged intercooler?
