Default New Battery -> Remember to Reset the Low Battery Counter

The XC90 CEM contains a counter that records low battery voltage levels.
I had my battery replaced recently and wanted to reset the counter, because the workshop forgot to do so. I thought it didn't work, but it does.
So when you replace your battery, remember to reset the counter.
My count on the old battery was at 69, it is now at 0

Here's the data from VIDA:

The central electronic module (CEM) has integrated counters for the vehicle's voltage levels. Two counters store information - one counts how many times voltage is low while the other counts how many times voltage is so low that vehicle functions are deactivated. The voltage level of each counter depends on battery temperature and current consumption in the vehicle. The counters are updated when voltage is low for more than approx. 2 minutes. The updated values can be read once they have been stored in the central electronic module (CEM). This is done after the ignition has been switched off and the key removed for approx. 30 minutes. Deactivated functions can include the ventilation fan and the infotainment system. Functions are automatically deactivated in order to ensure that there is sufficient battery output to start the vehicle. A text message appears in the display when voltage is low.

Caution! The counters should only be reset when the battery is being replaced or has recently been replaced.

Helpful tip!

My battery went weak over the past 3 days. First the power saving mode messaged came on. Then the clock on the cluster went -:--. Anti-skid message on starting the car which went away after a few second. And today the alarm siren message came on. Cranking was weak.

Old volvo battery lasted 89k km / 54 months.

I have VIDA and know how VIDA works.
It can be done in VIDA

As for your device that you have, I suggest you look through the menus to see what it supports.

What does it matter what the counters say? Surely they are just for diagnostic purposes and so would be reset at the onset of a suspected battery/charging problem to then provide feedback on that problem?

I think the car will consider the battery charge/health, because some systems will run when the car is parked (such as the cabin blower, to dry the A/C evaporator in summer days)

Correct, the user manual tells you that the car will shut down some systems when the battery voltage is low.

Exactly. They are for diagnostic purposes.
And they can only provide useful information if the counters are reset when a new battery is fitted, not afterwards.

Resetting when you have a problem does not help. Because then you have no historical data.

I'm thinking Zebster does not share your love of data Swiss...

I can see his point though, once you believe you may have a problem, resetting the counters will give you a known start point - unless the counters log incidents with a time + date stamp??

Cheers

Dave
