Default 940 auto gearbox to a Rover V8?

Does anyone know if a 940 auto box will link up to a 3.5 Rover V8 with just an adapter plate?

Cheers

more to the point, would a 940 autobox put up with a rover v8 driving it how i think you will.. id say no, considering my 113k 760 autobox has died with
just the extra power of chip, boost controller and induction system. car stinks of burning box after only about 10 miles of serious driving

EDIT: just seen your rat thread, 200hp should be fine actually, was thinking you were pushing for higher.. im sitting way above that if the maths is right 180 + 40 +7psi@10hp per psi

Yea, not going over the top on it. When I take the car back to Canada with me I'll see about fitting a torque shifter to it as it is still essentially a 251ci Buick V8 engine so plenty of support available for it over there.

Just need to know how easily it'll mate up really.

Hi have owned two 3500 rovers and can advise you that 940 box will NOT cope with power aw71 struggles with power of 240/740/940 mate it to 3.5 v8 will not work plus take up flex plates are of total dif pattern to make step down adaptor plate from bell housing to engine is a nightmare between 65 to 75 mm size enlargement note a 240 jag v8 is correct size bell housing hope this helps

Finding a Jag 240 bell housing isn't proving to be easy

Might need to try n find an automatic SD1 gearbox I think. Needs to be auto, and needs to fit to a Rover 3.5L V8

This might be of interest to you http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Volvo_700_V-8.html Not for a 900 but the 700s weren't that different, and they may have more useful info for you?

Cheers, problem is I need an auto box and they're all talking manual tranny there and Chevy engines. If I was back in Canada it'd be easy cos I'd just use the auto box from the engine donor car, but finding sn auto sd1 box ain't easy

Hmmmm, been doing some research and it seems that the ZF 4HP22 transmission is a good transmission to go for, and it's found in the earlier 2.3L 940's.

So looks like if I can get myself one of those gearboxes in the scrappy (there's a fair few 940s) and then a Range Rover bell housing off a 4HP22 gearbox, and the torque converter off it too, then job's a good 'un

That'd be the torque converter though surely? So by fitting it with the TC from the Rover 4HP22 gearbox, it should be alright I'd have thought?

Plus, I'm not going to be running 350hp or anything stupid, just be running about 200hp, and considering the HPT 940s were like 170hp, and can go to much more than that on the stock autobox, I'd have thought the ZF tranny with the Rover TC would have been ok??
