Hello there , somewhere under the bonnet or possibly on the VIN plate you will find a square box with a figure in it . That is the given emission limits for THAT car . When the emission test is carried out IF the square box cannot be found or is illegible , THEN the default emission limits apply .
If you drive slowly / only do short journeys / stop & start all the time , the engine does not get hot enough to burn off / blow out any loose soot and this will also affect the smoke test . Does your car have a DPF in the exhaust ? if so it should capture the rubbish & burn it off when engine conditions are right .Look at your emission print out , it should confirm the oil temp was 80C or higher .

Sitting for a week would not bother a healthy car and battery.... sitting for 3 months maybe....
With regard to MOT emission, if it is normally driven gently then an "Italian tune up" will probably sort it, do half a dozen runs from say 20 to 60 with your foot to the floor. Wife used to have a Kia Ceed and had the same problem, a good thrashing later it was fine. Carbon in the exhaust can get loosened on the fast acceleration run and cause a higher reading on the opacity meter. Or the garage is trying it on....
