Well, I've managed to do it myself this afternoon. Fuse located under glove compartment. Right hand small box. Squeeze the sides to pull cover off. Fuse number 22. Pull out with tweezer things found in the cover of the main fuse box under the bonnet. Replaced with a 15 amp mini blade fuse. Clan was right, you do have to be a contortionist to be able to get to this fuse (a left handed person would probably have found it easier than me, but I got to it by lying across the car from the drivers side.) All done, all working now. If it goes again for apparently no reason, then ill be off to Volvo to have a closer inspection of the wiring.

Mine was definitely as I described above and replacing the one fuse fixed both sockets. My car is a Nov 2011 version...hope that helps....

Mine blew a few times in my V60. We are opposite a local mechanics at work and they sorted it for me. Nice and simple. He told me it was usually a cheap tyre inflator that blew the 12v fuses and he was right. I bought a decent Ring one and it did not happen again.

It would be nice if there was a better standard for 12v sockets on cars/caravans - the one that is derived from the old cigar lighters I'd generally pretty rubbish. Those bureaucrats in Brussels could do something useful instead of fretting about vacuum cleaners....

I noticed on a car once the 12v socket blank had the words "Power outlet" on it. I wondered if the car slowed down if you took it out.......

Much to the annoyance of my kids, the rear 12v socket in our 2 month old XC60 loses power when I brake. Their DVD players switch off every time I hit the brake pedal. Not ideal when it's their main source of entertainment on a long journey.

I only got my XC60 yesterday, it's nearly seven years old on a 59 plate and the 12v sockets are dead. Can anyone tell me which fuse box I need to go to please as there are several ?
Also I'm a bit confused as there should be a USB socket under the centre armrest according to the handbook, but I only see a 3.5 jack socket which works fine.
Thanks in advance.

Pleased to say that I solved the problem in the way described by 'exasperated'.
A bit fiddly and you do have to be a bit of a contortionist, but I got there in the end.
Thank you

mine went whilst un-plugging a car phone charger from the front socket whilst having a tablet high power charger plugged in to the rear. Hasn't gone again since I replaced it, was over a year ago.
