Default Rear wheel bearing grease?

Hi all,

When re-fitting a half shaft, do the rear wheel bearings need to be greased?

I've read conflicting things with some people saying they should be greased, and others saying they shouldn't and that they share lubrication with the diff.

Thanks,

Nik

early ones do not have a seal on the inner side pressed into the axle tube so the axle oil gets in to lubricate the bearing .. Later cars have an inner seal which isolates the bearing from the axle oil so you need to grease those ...
In any case no harm in greasing them anyway ..

Hi Clan,

Thank you for the reply, I'm not sure if my car is earlier or later... it's a 1989 so I'm guessing later?

But I'll get some grease anyway as you have mentioned, thanks again!
